STart my swimming journey?

Where are we?

Our lessons are held at St Martin's comprehensive school (Hillside, Caerphilly, CF83 1UW), you can get to the school pool via the entrance on St Martins Road.

When do we operate?

Our lessons run on a Wednesday and Thursday evening between 4:45pm and 7:45pm and a Saturday morning between 8:45 am and 11:45am.

Class sizes

Our classes are taught with teachers in mostly in the water with a 7 pupil per class maximum, teaching assistants are present for classes with young children.  Older children are taught from the poolside.

Viewing the classes?

There is a strict no viewing policy at St Martins comprehensive school and there is no viewing area so parents are asked to wait in the changing room, outside on the building or in their own car.

A similar situation to childcare in that you trust the children to our care for 30 minutes and we will teach them how to swim. We don't follow our children into school every day we trust the school will do it's job and keep our children safe. On your first day you may need to be there for moral support for a little while but we would encourage you to leave them with us.

Changing rooms

St Martins school has seperate male and female changing rooms.  In accordance with good safeguarding practice, If your swimmer is under 8 years old (3-7) then they must go in via the changing room appropriate to the person that brings them.  If your swimmer is 8 years or older then they must use the appropriate changing room suitable for them.  For example, a female parent/guardian may assist her five-year-old son to dress in the girls’ changing area but cannot accompany her nine-year-old son into the boys’ changing area.

The Assessment

Your first lesson is an assessment, we will endeavour to get a good understanding of your child’s ability and needs. Please bring your child out to the poolside and introduce yourself to a member of the team and they will be directed to wait on the poolside with the other children ready to enter on the sound of the whistle.  After the class please see a member of the team to discuss the assessment and to book in for a suitable class.
